Prisoner Trials

I believe that those from Guantanamo bay should be tried in the country that they cam from, or in whatever country they committed the crime that put them in Guantanamo. If they committed a crime in a country they do not belong its only fair to try them with the legal system of that country. If they decide do perform a crime they should be punished and receive those circumstances for committing that crime in whatever country it applies to.

Executive Privelage

I believe that the president needs to share all information with congress. They should know everything that is going on as well. Congress can impact whatever it is, and with information being disclosed I think it is unfair. They should know every aspect of a matter and preform to the best of their ability.

Hate Crime

Im glad to hear that transgenders and homosexual are being represented. People are what they are, no one can change that or should want to change that. No matter race, religion, or sexual orientation you should not be made fun of. Everyone falls under one of these categories and no one wants any of them to be diminished or looked down upon. I believe this act is important because otherwise people who discriminate against others because of race, and religion etc. would get away with it.

Different Backgrounds in the Supreme Court

I think its necessary to have different backgrounds in the supreme court.With different backgrounds you get a wider view and opinion on each case. i believe it is more fair that way and if everyone felt the same way on something we might as well have one judge. Each judge was appointed for certain reasons, and I think there background and where they come from has impacted these reasons.

Eminent Domain

The government should not be allowed to take someones property unless it is truly for the better of the community, such as to build a hospital. In cases where the government justifies taking someones property to put in more parking for a car dealership because it brings in more taxes for the communities benefit seems ridiculous to me. Hundreds of people have lived in these homes or have had these family owed businesses for years, and for the government to take it away should be unconstitutional.

Marijuana Legalization

I feel that marijuana should be legalized and taxed. People use marijuana for health reasons and it really works for certain people. I believe that marijuana is also a lot safer then alcohol is and once legalized the crime rate involving marijuana will likely decrease.

People in Congress

I think people who did not attend college should be able to be apart of congress. There are a lot of really intelligent people who did not attend college or who are college drop outs, that now are very successful, one of which being Bill Gates. You do not need a college education to be fully aware and understanding of what is going on in the world. 

Do you identify with a certain political party?

My family is republican and their views are what I am most use to seeing. I feel I don't know enough about politics to fully understand both sides. I would say because of my family I am a republican but this may change as I get older and as politics becomes a bigger part of my life.

Voter Registration

I think voter registration isa good thing because it keeps people who know nothing about politics from walking right on in and making a vote. If you know nothing about the current poloticians and make an educated decision I dont think you should vote. But in order to change this the government would probably inact some sort of test to vote, which i do believe is unconstitutional.

Should the government be able to keep secrets?

I think there is a limit to what the government should be able to keep from us. We have right to know whats going on in our country but at the same time I can see how keeping some things secret for the safety of the people. Im sure there are many strange and interesting things in the world that average people know nothing about because the government keeps it top secret. Things like the magic johnson case, where now he suddenly doesnt have aids. People believe the government has found a cure for aids but is keeping it top secret.

Two party system?

I think that there should be more then two dominant parties but at the same time I believe that it is going to stay with two dominant parties for a long time. With more then two parties it lets people have more of a variety and they can expand their feelings on certain situations. Although, there has been these two parties for a very long time now, it is something that people are very use to. When people come so use to something it is often hard to get them to change, and when change occurs some may not respond well. In the end I believe it is a good idea for more then two parties but at the same time I believe it wont happen, or at least not for a long time.

Book Questions

My parents influenced my political attitudes. I don't really keep up with the news or politics so of what I do know, I would say they would be the influence for whatever political attitudes I have.

My family's party affiliation has had the greatest effect on my political attitudes because whenever I hear my parents talking about politics it is always what there opinion is and how they view it, so its something that you become use to.

I think the Federal Government should do more to save the environment. I dont know too much about healthcare or outsourcing jobs to other countries, I dont know enough to form an opinion. We talk about healthcare in class and its still something I have questions about.
